They have a deal on Poser12 for under $50. Just wondering if its too good to be true?

Just submitted a pic to the gallery. Possibly the last one I have to share. Merry Xmas!

Daz3d

1 min read

I spent the day moving my runtime folder back to my main HDD and dedicated serious time to trying Daz3d.

Honestly? I dont think Ill stick with it.

This isnt a particular critique of the software - its just that Im so used to Posers interface that trying to unlearn everything and learn how this works is a bit of a challenge - particularly for a hobby. I worked through most aspects to get a fairly basic render in place, but when it came to changing the materials of objects, I couldn't fathom it and it soured me on the whole thing - Im just too used to the Materials room in Poser.

Turns out, not everything was lost.

When I was setting up the new PC, i had copied all my important stuff to my portable drive, in order to wipe the old hard drive so I could move it. So despite the old HD conking out, it turns out I did indeed have a back up. Ive lost everything within the month or so of installation but that's a minor thing all things considered. So kudos to past me.

I last posted to say that I didn't have access to a Win10 compatible version of Poser, so I wouldn't be doing any rendering until that was resolved. So soon after buy my new machine that wasn't really a priority, however since then something else has happened that's thrown another spanner in the works.

When I swapped machines, I reformatted the old hard drive and stuck it into the new machine as a secondary drive, and transferred over much of my personal files to it - this included my Runtime folder (I suspect you see where this is going). After about 2-3 months I noticed the drive wasn't showing up on the file structure anymore. Since we were in lockdown I couldn't get anyone to look at it until today and they have confirmed what, to be fair, I suspected anyway. The drive is broken. All the info on it has been lost.

I'm trying to be zen about it but there were lots of bits on there that are irreplaceable - photos, etc along with any renders I had worked on but never published here for one reason or another. The biggest loss is my 100GB+ runtime folder. I do have a backup but its from a far earlier period than I would like and I have no idea what would be missing. To say I'm currently very disillusioned is an understatement.
